The ARC900 is the odd one in Thinkware's line: a 3.5-inch touchscreen camera from a brand whose entire identity is screenless boxes that hide behind a mirror. The reason is that the rest of the line is genuinely awkward to set up without a phone, and a touchscreen removes the app from the first hour of ownership. Optically it is strong. The front is a Sony STARVIS 2 shooting 3840x2160 at 30fps on a 147-degree lens - noticeably narrower than the 158 degrees on the U3000, so it resolves about 26 horizontal pixels per degree - and it will also do 2560x1440 at 60fps if you want the frame rate instead. The rear is a 1440p STARVIS 2 at 156 degrees. A 64GB card is in the box. It keeps Thinkware's supercapacitor and its 14 to 140 degree Fahrenheit range, and it drops the radar and cloud hardware the U-series is built around, which is part of why it costs less.

The front camera records 3,840 horizontal pixels across a published 147-degree field of view, which is 26.1 pixels per degree — plate-legible at distance. The rear channel manages 16.4, so it is the less detailed of the two. How this is calculated, and what it does not tell you.
It runs on a supercapacitor rather than a lithium cell, so there is no battery to swell in a car parked in summer sun — the classic way a windshield-mounted camera dies. The maker publishes an operating range of 14°F to 140°F. Supercapacitors and heat.
